mission-finops --terms
Terms.
What an engagement covers, what the guarantee means, how access works, and where liability is limited. Last updated 2026-08-25.
engagement --scope
Scope.
An AWS Cost Investigation answers one material cost question against your billing data and your architecture, over the period agreed at the start of the engagement. Scope, the account or accounts covered, and the question being investigated are agreed in writing before work begins. Work outside that scope, including a new question that surfaces during the investigation, is a separate conversation and, where it involves meaningfully more work, a separate engagement.
The deliverable is a downloadable written report containing the findings, the supporting evidence, the contradicting or incomplete evidence, and the recommended next steps, plus a call to walk through it. See a sample report for the shape of that deliverable.
the --guarantee
The guarantee.
If the investigation does not produce an explanation your engineers confirm and your finance team can defend, you do not pay the second half. This applies to the paid tier only, engagements above $50,000 a month in AWS spend, since the free tier has no second half to withhold. The guarantee is about whether the explanation holds up under your own team's scrutiny, not about whether the finding is convenient or whether it points to savings.
access --model
Read-only access.
Where AWS access is granted for an engagement, it is read-only. The published IAM policy at /policy/ contains no permission to create, update, modify, or delete AWS resources, and is available for your security team to review before you grant anything. Access is removed at the conclusion of the engagement.
liability --limit
Limitation of liability.
The investigation is an engineering opinion built from the evidence available at the time, not a guarantee of future cost, a compliance certification, or a substitute for your own engineering, finance, or legal judgment. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Mission FinOps' total liability arising from an engagement is limited to the fees paid for that engagement, and Mission FinOps is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost savings or lost business, arising from reliance on a report.
